This page previously stated, under a heading reading “What’s confirmed”, that coverage confirms the Top 8 and profile songs are returning, and dated the announcement to the week of August 3, 2026. Neither feature is supported by any source we could locate, and the origin publication is July 17, 2026. Both have been corrected, and the page is now tiered by evidence. We found this by tracing every relaunch claim back to its first published source — including our own.
What’s confirmed
One item. A statement by the people who own Myspace, on the record.

Myspace’s owners — brothers Chris and Tim Vanderhook of Viant, which has owned the platform since 2011 — said on camera that they intend to relaunch Myspace. The statement was published by People, quoting Tommy Avallone’s documentary Myspace, which premiered at Hot Docs in Toronto on April 27, 2026. It is a single short quote, and it names no features and no timing: they are “waiting for the right time.” People prints it without saying which brother said it; E! Reported, but not primary-sourced
Attributed to the owners by a reputable outlet, with no supporting statement we could find.
No algorithmic feed
Fox Business writes that the brothers “want to create a platform that feels different from current social media platforms” — reported speech, with no quote behind it. The anti-algorithm remarks we could trace belong to Chris DeWolfe, who co-founded Myspace, stepped down as its CEO in April 2009, and is a consulting producer on the documentary. Circulating without a source
Widely repeated. We could not trace any of these to a statement by anyone. That is not the same as saying they are false — only that nothing published supports them yet.
The Top 8 returns
The Fox Business report contains no mention of the Top 8 at all. Parade’s headline asserts it; Parade’s body uses the Top 8 only as nostalgic scene-setting, attached to nothing. Mashable — the outlet several others credit as their source — says it outright: the owners “have not announced a launch date, development timeline, or which classic Myspace features might return.” [Parade, via Yahoo] [Mashable, via Yahoo]
Profile songs return
Never mentioned in the origin article. Profile songs do appear throughout the coverage — but as nostalgia, not as a plan: Mashable’s version is “before you start choosing a profile song, there are still plenty of unanswered questions.” We found no one committing to them. [Mashable, via Yahoo]
Tom Anderson is not involved
Asserted everywhere, sourced nowhere. The earliest instance we found is an E! News headline — its body carries no Anderson quote and nothing that supports the assertion. The widely-copied version, that he “sold the company in 2005,” is wrong twice: News Corporation acquired Myspace’s parent company Intermix Media in 2005, and Anderson was still Myspace’s president in April 2009. He is also not silent on the subject — in January 2026 he told his Threads followers “Show me you care and we will talk MySpace,” then deleted the post. The open questions
When does it launch?
No launch date has been announced. “Waiting for the right time” is the entirety of the public schedule.
Do old accounts come back?
Unclear whether original accounts, friends lists, or photos will be restored — a sore subject, since Myspace famously lost years of user-uploaded music in a 2019 server migration.
How customizable are profiles?
The original Myspace let you restyle your entire page with pasted code. Whether the relaunch supports themes, layouts, or custom CSS is unconfirmed. This is the question Oddself is watching most closely.
What about the music?
Profile songs are widely mentioned but, as above, unsourced. Licensing, catalogs, and whether artist pages return haven’t been addressed publicly by anyone.
